LAWYERSCHILE: Israel and Palestine

Israel and Palestine  Spring for Arabs, winter for Jews

Palestinian incursions both rattle and bolster Israel's government

FOR months the Arab spring seemed to have passed the Palestinians by. But it caught up with them over the weekend of May 14th-15th, when they demonstrated en masse—and more daringly than usual—to commemorate the day the Palestinians call the naqba, or catastrophe, when Israel was created 63 years ago. Abetted by Syria's government in Damascus which was seeking a diversion from its own troubles, hundreds of unarmed Palestinian protesters (pictured) breached Israel's defences in the Golan Heights, something no Arab army has managed to do for 38 years. Four were killed. Throngs pushed into an Israeli-controlled Druze town, Majdal Shams, raising Palestinian and Syrian flags in the square and hailing the daring move as a first step to "going home".

Many of them demonstrated elsewhere, too. Thousands from their grim refugee camps in Lebanon converged on their southern border with Israel. In the worst violence there since the war of 2006 between Israel and the Lebanese party-cum-militia, Hizbullah, at least ten Palestinians were killed, amid Israeli claims that some of the victims had been shot by Lebanese soldiers trying to corral them. Thousands of Palestinians also massed across the Palestinian territories, including Ramallah, the West Bank capital, Nablus and Hebron. Hundreds converged on the crossing-point into Israel between Ramallah and Jerusalem at Qalandia. In Gaza, too, hundreds of Palestinians gathered near Israel's concrete fortifications which pen them in. Some threw stones. A protester was shot dead.

Despite such losses, these events may have raised the Palestinians' confidence in their ability to use mass action effectively, seeing that diplomacy and violence have so far failed. Next month pro-Palestinian campaigners may again try to breach Israel's naval blockade of Gaza in a ferry, a year after Israeli commandos killed nine Turkish activists seeking to reach the coastal territory in a flotilla. And the Palestinians now seem bent on winning direct recognition for their state at a vote in the UN General Assembly in September.

But that does not mean that the Arab spring has reached Palestine. Funerals for the weekend's victims passed without fanfare. Talk of a third intifada (uprising) still seems premature. For Palestinian politicians, the task of fleshing out the reconciliation deal agreed on in principle last month between their two main factions, the Islamist Hamas and the more secular Fatah, rapidly returned to the fore. Neither party seemed keen to stoke further popular unrest that might threaten their rule.

As for Israel, Binyamin Netanyahu's government sounded rattled by the incursions. Yasser Arafat, the late Palestinian leader, often spoke of sending a million Palestinians to march on Jerusalem in an unarmed but unstoppable assertion of national independence. It seemed hollow talk then. But the surge of "people power" through nearby Arab countries has made it sound more plausible, especially with hundreds of Palestinians thronging into Majdal Shams. Many Israelis wonder nervously if the Palestinians will try to repeat the gesture in September if, as expected, the Palestinians win statehood at the UN.

Meanwhile the Israeli army, caught flat-footed both on the Golan Heights and on the border with Lebanon, will have to shore up the border, at least in the north, to make it physically impassable. It may lay down wider swathes of barbed wire, insert more landmines, and build higher barriers topped with electrical devices. And Israel may beef up the controversial barrier, erected in recent years to keep out suicide-bombers, which cuts into Palestinian territory delineated by the border of 1967. But the barrier is studded with crossing points which may yet draw bigger crowds of Palestinian demonstrators.

Mr Netanyahu was quick to seize on the incursions to reinforce his argument against the Palestinians' quest for statehood at the UN. They proved, he told his parliament on May 16th, that the Palestinians were out to extirpate the Jewish state from any part of Palestine. On May 19th he was to fly to Washington to rally American opinion to this viewpoint. He was to meet Barack Obama the next day and will address Congress the week after.

Mr Netanyahu says he is ready, in principle, to negotiate a two-state solution, but claims there is "no partner" on the other side, especially since the accord between Fatah, which rules the West Bank, and Hamas, which runs the Gaza Strip. He says he can negotiate with no Palestinian government that includes Hamas, since it will not recognise Israel or disavow violence.

But opposition leaders in Israel say Mr Netanyahu himself is no partner for peace, since he refuses to accept that a Palestinian state would have to regain land lost in 1967, albeit with territorial swaps to let Israel absorb the largest Jewish settlement blocks, even though his predecessor, Ehud Olmert, offered this to the Fatah leader, Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinians' current president. Moreover, Mr Netanyahu insists that an undivided Jerusalem must be Israel's capital, though Mr Olmert's predecessor, Ehud Barak, agreed in 2000 to divide the city's sovereignty between the states of Israel and Palestine. And Mr Netanyahu still refuses to stop building settlements in the West Bank, the main bit of a future Palestinian state. Despite all this, Mr Netanyahu is hoping that his friends in America will persuade Mr Obama that the fence-busting Palestinians are the chief impediment to peace.

BIOCOMBUSTIBLES Jatropha 2.0 blooms

Jatropha 2.0 blooms

SG Biofuels announces 250K acres secured for with JMax jatropha hybrids - 1MM acres in pipeline.

What's different about jatropha 2.0?
In California, SG Biofuels announced it has signed customers for the deployment of 250,000 acres of Jatropha using its JMax hybrid seeds. The JMax hybrid seeds on average provide double the yield of existing commercial varieties planted in similar conditions, resulting in greater uniformity and vigor while significantly reducing seed handling and deployment costs.

Executives at such as Syngenta, Monsanto and others have indicated privately that jatropha will enter the ranks of "major crops" when it passes the 1 million acre barrier. Accordingly, it was significant that SG Biofuels CEO Kirk Haney indicated that "In addition to our signed customers, we have a large global pipeline totaling more than 1 million acres of planned Jatropha projects worldwide."

What is jatropha 2.0 vs jatropha 1.0 - where is it taking off first, and why? A full report on jatropha's comeback at biofuelsdigest.com

Rehabilitating Lochner: Defending Individual Rights against Progressive Reform

Rehabilitating Lochner: Defending Individual Rights against Progressive Reform

$26.95

By David E. Bernstein

A timely reevaluation of a widely misunderstood and unfairly criticized 1905 Supreme Court decision (Lochner v New York), which invalidated state laws limiting work hours, and became the leading case contending that novel economic regulations were unconstitutional.

About the Book

In this timely reevaluation of an infamous Supreme Court decision, David E. Bernstein provides a compelling survey of the history and background of Lochner v. New York. This 1905 decision invalidated state laws limiting work hours and became the leading case contending that novel economic regulations were unconstitutional. Sure to be controversial, the book argues that the decision was well grounded in precedent and that modern constitutional jurisprudence owes at least as much to the limited-government ideas of Lochner proponents as to the more expansive vision of its Progressive opponents.

Tracing the influence of this decision through subsequent battles over segregation laws, sex discrimination, civil liberties, and more, Rehabilitating Lochner argues not only that the court acted reasonably in Lochner, but that Lochner and like-minded cases have been widely misunderstood and unfairly maligned ever since.

About the Author

David E. Bernstein is Foundation Professor at the George Mason University School of Law and Adjunct Scholar at the Cato Institute. He is the author of several books, including, You Can't Say That! The Growing Threat to Civil Liberties from Antidiscrimination Laws.

The US Departments of Agriculture and Energy (USDA and DOE) are awarding a total of $47 million to fund eight research and development projects that will support the production of biofuels, bioenergy and high-value biobased products from a variety of biomass sources. The advanced biofuels produced through these projects are expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% compared to fossil fuels.

The projects are funded through the Biomass Research and Development Initiative and will help increase the availability of alternative renewable fuels and biobased products to diversify the nation's energy resources. Funding is provided through USDA's National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) and DOE's Biomass Program. Each award was made through a competitive selection process.

Grant recipients are required to contribute a minimum of 20% of matching funds for research and development projects and 50% of matching funds for demonstration projects. Awardees must pursue projects that integrate science and engineering research in three areas: feedstocks development, biofuels and biobased products development, and biofuels development analysis.

The following projects have been selected for awards:

  • Cellana LLC, Kailua Kona, Hawaii, $5,521,173. Cellana will work to develop a protein supplement from algae as a byproduct of algal biofuels production, by demonstrating its nutritional and economic value in livestock feeds. The project will characterize types of algae, assess the nutritional values of algal proteins, assess the potential for algal proteins to replace soybean meal, and develop algal protein supplements.

  • Domtar Paper Company, LLC, Fort Mill, SC, $7,000,000. This three-year project will work to build a demonstration plant using two technologies to convert low-value byproducts and wastes from paper mills into higher-value sugar, oil, and lignin products.

  • Exelus, Inc., Livingston, NJ, $5,185,004. Exelus will work to develop energy crops with improved tolerance to drought and salt stress to enhance yields on marginal lands. The project will also redesign a process to make hydrocarbon fuels using new catalysts and chemistry that avoids the high temperatures and large energy inputs required by current processes.

  • Metabolix, Inc., Cambridge, Mass., $6,000,001. Metabolix will enhance the yield of bio-based products, biopower, or fuels made from switchgrass. The project will use high temperature conversion to produce denser biomass and other products that can be further processed to make fuels such as butanol, chemicals such as propylene and other materials to improve the economic competitiveness of future biorefineries.

  • University of Florida, Gainesville, Fla., $5,430,439. The purpose of this project is to improve the production and sustainability of sweet sorghum as an energy crop. The University will identify genetic traits in sorghum associated with drought tolerance through genetic mapping and will select strains that produce high biomass yields and can be easily converted to fermentable sugars.

  • University of Kansas Center for Research, Lawrence, Kan., $5,635,858. The purpose of this project is to demonstrate a novel, sustainable technology at a pilot scale that produces diverse products, including advanced fuels, industrial chemicals and chemical intermediates.

  • University of Kentucky, Lexington, Ky., $6,932,786. The purpose of this project is to improve the economics for biorefineries by using on-farm processing to convert biomass to a mixture of butanol, ethanol, acetone and organic acids. The product can then be easily transported to a biorefinery for further processing. The project will integrate input from experts in a variety of disciplines, including plant and soil scientists, horticulturists, chemical engineers, and economists.

  • US Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Research Station, Missoula, Mont., $5,309,320. This project will develop an integrated approach to investigate biomass feedstock production, logistics, conversion, distribution and end use centered on using advanced conversion technologies at existing forest industry facilities.

How to Build a Twitter Following for Your Business

How to Build a Twitter Following for Your Business

5Share

Chances are, if you're reading this article, you already know the value of social media marketing and are actively looking for the best strategy to build a Twitter or Facebook following. On the off chance that you're not sure why your business needs social media now, check out this video on the impact of social media. Social media is not a fad. It's not going away. Businesses who learn how to utilize these tools effectively will have a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Businesses who are not already using social media are behind.

How to Engage

contest

Twitter is all about following the people and businesses you're interested in and gaining followers in return. It's easy to follow other people–you just click on the "follow" button. But how do you get people to follow you? If you're not already a huge brand name, this can be pretty challenging.

The key to building a following quickly is to make people an offer they can't refuse. For example, Vergent is doing a Twitter iPad giveaway. Anybody who follows @vergentcom and re-tweets them is eligible to win a free iPad. Who wants a free iPad? Everyone! Because they've made re-tweeting a pre-requisite to winning the iPad, the giveaway picked up word-of-mouth momentum, and they were able to go from zero to 800 new followers in two weeks.

The key is to keep followers after the giveaway is over. Businesses who use the giveaway tactic may be interested in running perpetual giveaways to avoid attrition. Alternatively, businesses can simply create interesting and engaging content to make followers want to stay. This means. . . you guessed it. . .

Easy on the Advertising

easy

Most businesses make the mistake of thinking they can use Twitter as a straight advertising tool. Wrong. Twitter is a social media application–the key word there being "social." How many times have you walked up to a stranger at a bar (or other social gathering place) and said something like, "Hey, did you know you can get really affordable business internet service from Company X for only $149 a month?" I'm betting never, because let's be honest. That's a terrible pick-up line.

People naturally resist engaging with advertisers, which is something we all intuitively know. Then why is it so tempting for businesses to start a Twitter stream and disseminate nothing but ads? The reason is because it seems like a cheap and easy way to get the message out. But if the message is out there, and nobody's listening, what's the point? You must avoid the tempation to alienate your followers by disseminating nothing but ads on Twitter. Must. Period.

Be a Person–Interact

attentive

Nobody really wants to have a one-way conversation with a nebulous business entity. Be a person. Interact. Make sure your conversation is two-way. Try to engage with your followers by giving them @mentions and re-tweeting their best stuff. Try to remember that your Twitter account shouldn't be all about YOU unless you are Justin Beiber, Lady Gaga, or Starbucks. . . because let's face it. If you're not a huge brand name or larger-than-life celebrity, nobody really cares. You must make them care by interacting–showing other people that you also care about them.

And then when it's time to talk about yourself, make sure you're interesting. What kinds of things would you write in your personal Twitter account? Probably you would write stuff that shows your personality. You would try to be funny. You would share good, informative stuff that people want to hear about. And if somebody sent you a message, you would probably reply. These are all things you should also do on your business' Twitter account.

There's a tremendous inclination towards whitewashing business Twitter accounts in an effort to make sure the company is putting its best foot forward. But businesses tend to over-do this, and the result is a lot of boring content that nobody cares about. Obviously, there's some amount of self-censoring that must go on. For example, you probably don't want to post pictures of a drunken Saturday-night bender or use a lot of four-letter words on a business account. You probably also want to avoid religion or politics (unless your business happens to fall into either of those categories). Even so, there's still a lot of room there to show some personality and be interesting. Don't be afraid to show your personality and be the best version of yourself.

Join #teamfollowback

follow

Continuing on the interaction thread, make sure your business is a member of #teamfollowback. What this means is that your business must make it a strict policy to follow back every single person who follows you. You cannot build relationships that will sell your products or services if you do not do this. If you're not a huge brand name, there really is not a good reason not to follow other people. Remember, good business is about relationship-building, and that means the conversation must be a two-way street.

Forget about Measuring ROI the Traditional Way

measure

A lot of businesses, when deciding whether or not to implement a social media program, ask themselves, "What's the ROI going to be?"

In traditional terms, this means the bigwigs would send out a tweet and try to gauge its effectiveness in sales numbers directly relating to the tweet. Your business must resist the temptation to do this, because this is simply not how social media works. You simply cannot measure it in the same way you would measure traditional advertising campagins, because Twitter is not an advertising tool.

Think of it as more of a tool for creating brand awareness. By engaging with a wide variety of people, you are promoting awareness of your brand. And then, once in a blue moon, if you want to share a cool promotion with your group of social media friends, go ahead and tweet it. Your friends will be listening.

The Case Against President Obama's Health Care Reform: A Primer for Nonlawyers

The Case Against President Obama's Health Care Reform: A Primer for Nonlawyers

by Robert A. Levy

Multiple challenges to President Obama's health care reform are percolating through the federal courts. Soon the Supreme Court will be asked to weigh in on perhaps the most important question of the post–New Deal era: Are there any remaining limits on the breadth and scope of federal power?

Reinforced by decades of Court decisions that have gutted the Framers' original conception of limited government, the Obama administration has embraced an unprecedented expansion of centralized control. This paper addresses the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which includes a mandate that individuals either purchase a government-prescribed health insurance policy or pay a penalty.

The Department of Health and Human Services has asserted three constitutional provisions as sources of authority for the mandate — the Taxing Power, the Commerce Clause, and the Necessary and Proper Clause. Each of those purported sources is deficient.

First, the penalty for not buying health insurance is not a tax. Even if the penalty were a tax, it would fail the constitutional requirements for income, excise, or direct taxes. Second, the power to regulate interstate commerce extends only to economic activities; it does not permit Congress to compel such activities in order to regulate them. Third, the mandate is not necessary; indeed, it is merely a means to circumvent problems that would not exist if not for PPACA itself. Nor is the mandate proper; it cannot be reconciled with the Framers' original design for a limited federal government of enumerated powers.

An essential aspect of liberty is the freedom not to participate. PPACA's directive that Americans buy an unwanted product from a private company debases individual liberty. And it's unconstitutional.

Tactics Obama ‘Tried To Shove Down The Public’s Throat’

Tactics Obama 'Tried To Shove Down The Public's Throat'
Video

In addition to cheering on Donald Trump, last night Sarah Palin also weighed in on the budget deal and President Obama's role in the process. Palin thought Obama deserved no credit for the compromise and even thought his actions were "appalling" and "atrocious" since he used the funding of troops as a pawn in his political game.

Palin also suggested why the Tea Party should not be happy with the budget compromise:

"What the Tea Party wants is for government to be smaller and smarter. When you consider that we just saw an increase in government spending by about 28% and saw a little chip out of that to the tune of 1%, I would say that no the Tea Party and Americans in general who are concerned about the fiscal health of our country did not get what they wanted."

Palin urged for more drastic cuts to be made, saying that after national defense is fully funded, then everything should be on the table. And she hesitantly supported Republican Congressman Paul Ryan's budget proposal, but her hesitancy was only because she wished it could be more aggressive and accomplished quicker.

However, she was most fired up over the criticism from Democrats about the Tea Party, which she labeled as a distraction:

"It's very, very insulting what the administration and President Obama tried to shove down the American public's throat in terms of that rhetoric and the scare tactics and the chaos that would ensue – they tried to get people to believe if there was a partial shutdown."

Instead, Palin concluded Americans are much more intelligent than Democrats might think.

PHOTO: Miley Cyrus Poses With BFF Gucci Mane

Credit: @mileycyrus

Just like peanut butter and jelly, ketchup and mustard, and Hall & Oates, another timeless combination we've come to know and love is Miley Cyrus and Gucci Mane. Just kidding! Completely, 100 percent kidding! This is one mash-up not even Girl Talk saw coming (Zing!).

From her recently reactivated Twitter account, Miley tweeted, "Don't mind me just showin off muahhh grill with @gucci1017 at the urrrport!" (That would be, "Here I am smiling with Gucci Mane's cover of SOURCE at the airport," for those of you that don't speak Cyrus.) Gotta say, Miley does a pretty accurate Gucci impression. For a second there we couldn't tell them apart.

But the copycat stuff better stop there, Miley! Not sure if you heard, but Gucci Mane recently got an ICE CREAM CONE tattooed ON HIS FACE. We know you've been into tattoos lately too, little missy, but just because your friends are jumping off a bridge, does that mean you're going to also?! Huh? Answer me, young lady!

OK, we're overreacting. We know Miley was just...bein' Miley. But seriously. NO FACE TATTOOS, GURL!

IT COULD not have begun more discreetly. A trial heralded as the most sensational of any brought against Italy's much-prosecuted prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi, opened this morning at a hearing lasting nine minutes and 50 seconds—and was promptly adjourned to May 31st.

Mr Berlusconi, who was not in court, is accused of two particularly squalid offences: paying an underage prostitute, and exploiting his position to cover it up. He denies any wrongdoing, and will doubtless have been heartened by what little emerged at today's hearing. The alleged prostitute is Karima el-Mahroug, known to some as Ruby Rubacuori ("Ruby Heartstealer"), the runaway daughter of a Moroccan immigrant who was under 18, the minimum age for prostitution in Italy, when she visited Mr Berlusconi's villa outside Milan last year.

Ms el-Mahroug's lawyer told the court that she would not be joining herself to the case or seeking damages from the prime minister. In fact, she denied she was a prostitute or that she had had sex with the 74-year-old Mr Berlusconi.

That was not the only good news for the embattled prime minister. Yesterday the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of parliament, resolved by a 12-vote majority to ask Italy's constitutional court to block the proceedings against him. Mr Berlusconi's supporters, who saw two more deputies join their ranks for the vote, maintain that the prosecutors ignored a ruling by parliament that the case should have been dealt with by a special court. (His opponents argue that jurisdiction is a matter for judges and note that the special court would have needed parliamentary approval to proceed.)

Today's adjournment may give the constitutional court time to decide. But it will also give the judges and prosecutors in Milan time to focus on a separate case, one Mr Berlusconi is said to fear more, in which he denies bribing a British lawyer, David Mills, to withhold testimony that could have led to his conviction in an earlier trial.

Since Mr Mills has already been found guilty (although his conviction was later quashed on a technicality), there is a real chance the prime minister could face the same verdict, and that the proceedings against him will be dispatched before they are timed out by a statute of limitations, as has happened in previous cases against him.

This, say critics, is why his government has resurrected a bill to put different sorts of time limits on trials and appeals. Drafted by Mr Berlusconi's lawyer, the bill is ostensibly intended to ginger up Italy's notoriously sluggish legal system. It has been approved by the Senate but not yet by the chamber. The body that oversees the judiciary says that if the law is enacted, between 10% and 40% of the defendants currently on trial in Italy could walk free. Mr Berlusconi's justice minister says the true figure is 1%.

Gary Hamel on the need to retool management

In a Wall Street Journal post, Gary Hamel argues that Management 1.0 no longer suffices and must make way for a new model for the future, Management 2.0.

Barack Obama's energy policy

Barack Obama's energy policy

Recycled

Platitudes from the president

Mar 31st 2011 | WASHINGTON, DC | From The Economist print edition

FOR 40-odd years now, as Barack Obama lamented on March 30th, American politicians have banged on endlessly about the evils of America's dependence on imported oil, without doing very much about it. It was time, he declared, to change that, with a package of initiatives that would cut America's oil imports by a third within a decade, according to the White House's calculations. Unfortunately, however, Mr Obama's scheme seems doomed to go the same way as all the brave talk from his predecessors, not to mention his own rhetoric on the campaign trail.

Mr Obama's plan has four main strands: increasing domestic production of oil, boosting the use of biofuels and natural gas as substitutes, encouraging the spread of electric cars and making petrol-powered vehicles more efficient. He also chucked into the mix his "clean energy standard", a scheme to promote less polluting forms of electricity generation, even though it has nothing to do with oil imports (energy generation relies on coal, gas, nuclear or renewables, but not on oil, which is used almost exclusively for transport, heating and industry.)

None of this is new. The clean-energy standard was first wheeled out in Mr Obama's state-of-the-union speech in January, and is anyway only a rehashed version of a much older proposal to promote renewable energy, with nuclear power and natural gas bolted on to broaden its appeal. The administration was already working on a fresh series of ever more demanding fuel-efficiency standards for vehicles for when the current lot run out in 2016. Mr Obama had also previously pledged to nurture growth in domestic oil production, to counter Republican cries of "Drill, baby, drill."

As for biofuels, the government has been subsidising them for decades, and the Department of Energy is already lending money to the sort of high-tech but handout-dependent plants that the president says he wants more of. Even talk of encouraging natural-gas vehicles is nothing new: T. Boone Pickens, an irrepressible oilman who is now an apostle of gas and wind power, has buttonholed half of Congress, and anyone else who will listen, on the subject.

Worse, those parts of the president's plan that need congressional approval—the clean-energy standard, more subsidies, extra funding for research on whizz-bang energy technology—will never receive it. The Republicans who control the House are dead set against anything that smacks of greenery, not to mention anything that would add to spending at a time when they are trying to take an axe to it. They have already ruled out the president's signature energy policy: a cap-and-trade scheme to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. They are also trying to rein in the Environmental Protection Agency. The best the president can hope to do is hold the line, and preserve the EPA's existing authority over emissions. So it is hard to see his recycled list of proposals as anything more than a reassurance to the environmentally minded, and to Americans fretting about rising fuel prices, that the president feels their pain—unlike those nasty Republicans.

Sarah Palin Flips Her Wig And Claims Iran Is Coming to Destroy The US

Sarah Palin Flips Her Wig And Claims Iran Is Coming to Destroy The US

March 24, 2011
By Jason Easley

Sarah Palin sat down with BFF Greta Van Susterin on Fox News to discuss her recent trip to Israel, but things took a turn into the bizarre when Palin claimed that Iran is coming to attack the United States, "Don't think that Ahmadinejad would stop at Israel, they'd be coming in our direction too, so it's in our best interest to protect Israel."

Here is the video from Media Matters:

While trying to criticize Obama's relationship with Israel, Palin showed her depth of understanding about the issue of Israeli settlements in occupied territory when she referred to the settlements as a zoning issue. Palin said, "President Obama was inappropriate to intervene in a zoning issue in Israel though. Let Israel decide their zoning issues themselves."

Just to make clear that this wasn't a slip of the tongue, Palin continued, "Build housing for the Jews in their homeland whether they are going to be allowed to or not, and no President Obama didn't want to see that allowance of the building of the structures. I would have taken an opposite approach, by the way, but Israel concession after concession, and Israel facing threat after threat. They deserve to know that America will be there to help secure."

Dominionists like Sarah Palin believe that all Jews must return and occupy Palestine. According to Theocracy Watch, "In order to fulfill Biblical prophecy, Dispensationalists have been working hard to ensure that the world's Jews return to Israel and occupy all of Palestine," so of course Palin would disagree with Obama on the settlements. She doesn't care about international law or the fact the Israeli settlements have been declared illegal. Palin is set to govern by the Bible not the Constitution

Palin then went all paranoid and claimed that after Iran wipes out Israel they will be coming for the US, "They're being surrounded now on all sides by enemies. They have to worry now about their peace agreements with Jordan and with Egypt, and they need to know that they've got the US, the superpower the leader of the free world, being on their side, knowing they will not be destroyed as Ahmadinejad the leaders in Iran want to see them wiped off the face of the Earth. Don't think that Ahmadinejad would stop at Israel, they'd be coming in our direction too, so it's in our best interest to protect Israel."

The fact that Sarah Palin thinks that the issue of Israeli settlements are a "zoning issue" that is the equivalent of getting a permit to put a new shed up in the backyard, or add a deck to the house should be enough to disqualify her from ever being taken seriously as a political candidate, but when she launched into her belief that Iran coming is to attack the United States, she jumped the fence of sanity and landed straight in a patch of bat s**t crazy.

For all the people who think that Obama is a warmonger for taking part in a UN humanitarian mission in Libya, maybe you better step back and take a look at what aching to replace Obama on the other side. Sarah Palin is willing to use Israel as a pretext to start a war with Iran, even though there is no evidence that Iran is planning or even has the capacity to execute an attack on the United States.

For those of you waiting for Sarah Palin's final fingernail to give way as she teeters off the cliff of sanity, today is your lucky day. Palin has always been small minded, disinterested, petty, vindictive, and paranoid, that was all just part of Sarah's charm, but she gave us a glimpse tonight into what a Palin run White House would look like, and it makes Dick Cheney look like world class diplomat.

Sarah Palin has finally lost it and gone full blown nutter. There really is no other way to describe the notion that Iran is going to wipe Israel off the map, and then set out to destroy the United States. Palin has skipped warmongering and going straight to her theocratic end of days/holy war/vision of how America should be governed.

Palin isn't just a Tina Fey sketch on SNL. She is a dangerous theocrat who would make the Bush administration look like constitutional secularists. As time has gone on Palin has been less able to keep her extremist beliefs covered up.

Many on the right have fantasized about war with Iran, but Sarah Palin is willing to use the Bible to make it real.
