BigLaw Partner Doesn't Know His Own Billing Rate
Humorous anecdotes coming from in-house counsel that touch on the arrogance and general cluelessness of law firm partners are always a winner.
Though he exercises discretion and doesn't name names, Pete Dosik at the In-House Blawg posted a warning to his colleagues about a sure sign that a big bill is likely coming from outside counsel.
Dosik, who describes himself as "Deputy General Counsel of a global quick service restaurant chain" (the Internets inform me said chain is Church's Chicken), looking to get a handle on legal costs, as any good in-house lawyer knows he must, put in a call to a partner at a BigLaw firm working on a project for the company. Dosik was apparently not all that familiar with the partner, since the law firm in question came into the picture only last year when Church's was sold to a new private equity firm.
