Lawyer Tapped as First FOIA Ombudsman
An office created by Congress in 2007 to provide policy guidance and mediation services for Freedom of Information Act activities throughout the federal government finally has a director -- a lawyer with substantial experience in promoting open government. The National Archives and Records Administration announced that Miriam Nisbet has been named director of the Office of Government Information Services.
Since 2007, Nisbet has been in Paris, where she is director of the Information Society Division of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization. She oversees two major programs that support libraries and archives in developing countries and that promote new communication technologies for education, science and culture.
